Jonathan Locke Hart, a literary scholar, critic, and Canadian poet, has published the recent book Unforgetting Private Charles Smith, based on a small diary that he came across in the Toronto Public Library’s special collection department. Unforgetting Private Charles Smith is a profoundly moving account of Locke Hart’s research through the labyrinth of faded photographs, digital archives, old files, and the catalogues hidden away about one of the young Canadian soldiers of the Great War, Charles Smith.
